SELECTING A TENANT

The Housing Authority's intake process for approving participants is included in their Administrative Plan. This process is designed to verify the family's suitability for participation in the rental assistance program.

The owner is responsible for the screening and selection of their tenants based on a family's tenancy history.

The Housing Authority has not screened the family's behavior or suitability for tenancy. It is beneficial for the owner to consider a family's background.

In screening a family's tenancy history an owner may consider such factors as:

  • Payment of rent and utilities
  • Caring for a unit / premises
  • Respecting other residents rights to peaceful enjoyment of their housing
  • Drug-related criminal activity or other criminal activity that is a threat to the health, safety or property of others
  • Compliance with other essential conditions of tenancy
